Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI)

One of the most effective electrical safety devices is a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI). These fast acting devices help protect against dangerous electrical shocks by interrupting the flow of power to the receptacle when electrical current leaks from its intended path and flows through an alternate path to ground - especially if the alternate path is through a person. This can occur when water, an exposed wire in an electrical appliance or any number of other scenarios creates an equal or easier path to ground for current to flow.
